Bernard Tomic will open Australia's bid for a place in September's World Group play-offs when he takes on Uzbekistan's No. 2 Farrukh Dustov in Namangan on Friday in the Asia/Oceania Zone Group I second round.
The World No. 43 missed his nation's 5-0 win over Chinese Taipei in February and represents Australia in Davis Cup for the first time since their World Group play-off defeat to Germany last September.
The 20-year-old has an 8-2 record in Davis Cup singles ties and will look to set Australia off on the right foot as Pat Rafter's team continues its drive to return to the World Group for the first time since 2007.
World No. 50 Marinko Matosevic has been given the nod to play 46th-ranked Denis Istomin in the second singles rubber ahead of Davis Cup stalwart and world No. 83 Lleyton Hewitt, who will play in the doubles rubber alongside Matthew Ebden on day two.
Also set to battle it out for a place in the World Group play-offs, Japan and Korea, Rep. go head to head this weekend in Tokyo's Ariake Coliseum with world No. 101 Tasuma Ito opening proceedings for the hosts.
Ito plays 19-year-old Suk-Young Jeong, five years his junior, in the opening rubber before world No. 86 Go Soeda faces off against lowly-ranked world No. 742 Min Hyeok Cho.
After both suffering defeat in February's first round ties, Chinese Taipei welcome China P,R. to Tianjin as both bid to assure their status in Group I for another year, as do India and Indonesia in Bangalore. The first round play-off losers will battle it out to avoid relegation in the second round play-off in September.
