USA v Serbia
Venue: Taco Bell Arena
Location: Boise, Idaho
Surface: Indoor hard
USA will play in Idaho for the first time, at the Taco Bell Arena in Boise, hoping that home support at the new venue can help them avenge their first round loss to Serbia in 2010 when the two teams meet for a second time in Davis Cup by BNP Paribas.
The multi-purpose indoor arena, located on the campus of Boise State University, is home to the Broncos basketball, wresting and gymnastics teams and also regularly hosts concerts (the likes of Beyonce and Katy Perry have performed there) and trade shows.
Idaho will become the 34th American state to host a US Davis Cup tie when Davis Cup takes centre stage on 5-7 April, with the venue set to accommodate 11,772 fans.
Argentina v France
Venue: Parque Roca – Estadio Mary Teran De Weiss
Location: Buenos Aires, Argentina
Surface: Outdoor clay
Argentina is staging its seventh straight home tie at the Parque Roca. The venue, which has a capacity of 13,069 for the upcoming Davis Cup weekend, has proved something of a fortress for Martin Jaite’s men, whose only defeat in that period came to Czech Republic in last year’s semifinal. The last time Argentina played a home tie at a venue other than the Parque Roca was in the 2008 final, when they lost 3-1 to Spain at the Estadio Islas Malvinas.
Argentina and France have met five times prior to this quarterfinal, with France having won all five meetings. They have met just once before in Argentina though, with the hosts narrowly losing 3-2.
Canada v Italy
Venue: Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre
Location: Vancouver, Canada
Surface: Indoor hard
Canada will hope the familiarity of the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre can help them reach their first Davis Cup semifinal in a century when they take on Italy in the quarterfinals. Canada, who defeated five-time champions Spain at the venue in the quarterfinals, will play at the 6,216-capacity venue for the third time in their last four Davis Cup encounters.
Situated on the campus of the University of British Columbia, the arena is home to the UBC Thunderbirds men’s and women’s ice hockey teams and also hosts concerts with room for up to 8,000 people.
Kazakhstan v Czech Republic
Venue: National Tennis Centre
Location: Astana, Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan will be hoping to continue their excellent home record when they take on the reigning Davis Cup champions Czech Republic in their National Tennis Centre in Astana in the quarterfinals. Kazakhstan have won their last five home ties and will be looking to extend that run.
The last time the two teams met, Kazakhstan defeated Czech Republic 3-2 in Ostrava after winning both of the reverse singles rubbers on the final day. Czech Republic will be looking for revenge in April.
