JACKSONVILLE, USA: Thomaz Bellucci admitted that he had little chance in his match against Sam Querrey first-up on court in Jacksonville and that he had scant chance to be upset given how well his opponent played. In particular the American's serve was pinpointed as a key to victory hitting the ball close to the lines making it hard to return.
On the other hand John Isner was pleased with his performance as he recorded his first victory since October having been suffering with a knee injury of late. His trademark effective serve was in full force although he admitted to feeling 'rusty' on court at times.
USA captain Jim Courier ended day one in bouyant mood after both his players produced the goods on the opening day and he also had encouraging words to say about Mardy Fish's recovery as the former American No. 1 is training with the team this weekend in Jacksonville.
