AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS: Robin Haase remains optimistic about the Netherlands chances despite them being two points down after the first day of singles action. Both Haase and his compatriot Thiemo de Bakker lost their opening rubbers to leave the hosts with a mountain to climb if they are to secure a place in the World Group for 2013.
Haase rues some missed opportunities in his match against Stanislas Wawrinka, who now boasts a 6-0 head-to-head record against the Dutchman, but accepts that the tie still isn't over.
Wawrinka was pleased with his match in the windy and wet conditions in Amsterdam and likewise his teammate Roger Federer was relieved to with the first match and put the pressure firmly on the hosts.
