WIENER NEUSTADT, AUSTRIA: Just 10 minutes before the draw, Russian captain Shamil Tarpischev alerted Igor Kunitsyn to the fact that he will be playing singles ahead of Mikhail Youzhny, which leaves opponent Jurgen Melzer in a much happier place ahead of Friday's opening singles rubber.

Melzer and new captain Clemens Trimmel are satisfied with Austria's first round draw, believing this is their best possible chance to reach the World Group quarterfinals, somwhere they haven't been since 1995.

"They don't have a Top 10 player at the moment", said Melzer, with Trimmel adding "We're not big favourites but it's still an even match."

Meanwhile in the other camp, Alex Bogomolov is looking forward to his first ever Davis Cup match for Russia.
