Next tie 12-14 September 2014
Argentina lost in the first round for the first time since returning to the World Group in 2002, and therefore must compete in a play-off against Israel in Sunrise, Florida. The Argentinians have been victorious in both of the nations' previous meetings, although the most recent took place 24 years ago.
Last tie 31 January-2 February 2014
Argentina lost out to Italy 3-1 after Carlos Berlocq had given the hosts the lead on the opening day. Fabio Fognini lead the comback for the Italian with victories over Juan Monaco and Berlocq either side of teaming with Simone Bolelli to defeat Eduardo Schwank and Horacio Zeballos in the doubles.
Argentina finished runners-up in 1981, 2006, 2008 and 2011, but are yet to lift the trophy. Only Argentina, Romania and India have contested more than one Final without being crowned champion, but Argentina are the only of these nations to have lost four times.
