Colombia face a tough task as they travel to Japan for their World Group play-off. This will be the first meeting between the two nations in only Colombia's second ever World Group play-off. They lost 3-1 to USA on their first attempt to reach the World Group and will be hoping to avoid a repeat performance.

Colombia comfortably defeated Uruguay 5-0 in their Americas Zone Group I second round clash. Juan-Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah won a 5-set doubles rubber to claim an insurmountable 3-0 lead after day two and the Colombians easily won the two dead doubles rubbers.
History
Colombia has twice reached the Americas Zone Group Final, in 1974 and 1981. It played in the World Group play-offs for the first time in 2010. Colombia's Alvaro Betancur was involved in the joint-longest set of a Davis Cup singles rubber - 46 games - against Canada in 1976.
