Czech Republic host France in the 2016 World Group quarterfinals.
Last tie 4-6 March 2016
Having lost a first round tie for the first time in four years in 2015, Czech Republic made no mistake this time round in a tight away tie in Germany. After two five set encounters on Friday the scores were tied at 1-1. The erstwhile Davis Cup doubles team of Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek won in straight sets against Philipp Kohlschreiber and Philipp Petzschner to give the Czechs the advantage, but Kohlschreiber levelled things up once again when Berdych retired injured in the fourth rubber. Lukas Rosol eased Czech nerves with a confident straight sets victory over Alexander Zverev to give the 2013 champions another shot at victory this year.
Following their 2013 victory over Serbia, Czech Republic have now won the Davis Cup on three occasions. The first victory came in 1980, when they played as Czechoslovakia, with the second coming in 2012. They have also finished runners-up on two further occasions, in 1975 and 2009. Along with USA, they have appeared in the World Group in all but one year. Czech players represented Czechoslovakia until 1992, and then Czech/Slovak Republics in 1993.
