Next tie 18-20 September 2015
The Czechs will have to contest a World Group play-off for the first time since 2011 after their first round defeat to Australia. They will find out their opponents when the draw takes place on 21 July.
Last tie 6-8 March 2015
A Czech team devoid of their heroes from recent years, Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek, lost 3-2 to Australia in the World Group first round. A 0-2 comeback from Thanasi Kokkinakis against Lukas Rosol gave Australia an unlikely lead before 2 singles wins from Bernard Tomic sealed the tie.
Following their 2013 victory over Serbia, Czech Republic have now won the Davis Cup on three occasions. The first victory came in 1980, when they played as Czechoslovakia, with the second coming in 2012. They have also finished runners-up on two further occasions, in 1975 and 2009. Along with USA, they have appeared in the World Group in all but one year. Czech players represented Czechoslovakia until 1992, and then Czech/Slovak Republics in 1993.
