Next tie 15-17 July 2016
Ecuador will play Brazil in the Americas Zone Group I second round in July, with a place in the World Group play-offs up for grabs.
Last tie 4-6 March 2016
Ecuador eased to victory over Barbados, winning all five rubbers for the loss of just one set. Emilio Gomez triple-bageled Adam Hornby in the first rubber, before Ivan Endara scored an impressive victory over Darian King. The tie was wrapped up by the end of the second day's play when Gomez and Giovanni Lapentti beat King and Haydn Lewis in a four-set doubles rubber.
Ecuador was a quarterfinalist in 1985 and - prior to the introduction of the World Group - it won the American Zone in 1967, but lost in the Inter Zonal semifinals. Nicolas Lapentti holds the record for the most number of five-set singles wins in the competition, with 13.
