Next tie 4-6 March 2016
Ecuador will play Barbados in the Americas Zone Group I first round in March.
Last tie 18-20 September 2015
Gonzalo Escobar claimed a one-sided deciding fifth rubber to propel Ecuador to a 3-2 victory in Barbados and seal their Americas Zone Group I status for 2016. The first day was split with Darian King winning for the hosts and Emilio Gomez levelling up for the visitors. Then, Escobar and Gomez combined to take the doubles contest, before Barbados' King forced a fifth contest. But Escobar breezed past Seanon Williams 62 61 60 to keep Ecuador up in Group I, where they could face Barbados again in next year's first round, if they defeat Uruguay at the end of October.
Ecuador was a quarterfinalist in 1985 and - prior to the introduction of the World Group - it won the American Zone in 1967, but lost in the Inter Zonal semifinals. Nicolas Lapentti holds the record for the most number of five-set singles wins in the competition, with 13.
