Great Britain will travel to Serbia for a tricky away tie as the team aims to defend its Davis Cup title.
Last tie 4-6 March 2016
The defending champions ensured they would compete in a third consecutive quarterfinal with a win over Japan in Birmingham. After singles wins for Andy Murray and Kei Nishikori left the tie even at the end of the first day, the Murray brothers continued their excellent form in Davis Cup doubles to put the Brits ahead. In the reverse singles, Murray carved out a two set lead against Nishikori but the Japanese No. 1 came storming back to level the match at two sets apiece, before Murray closed out the fifth set to see Great Britain safely through to the quarters.
Great Britain has lifted the Davis Cup trophy on 10 occasions. In 2015 it ended a 79-year wait to secure its first triumph in the competition since 1936, when Fred Perry and Bunny Austin were leading the team. Great Britain is the only nation that has participated in all the editions of the Davis Cup from 1900, although it competed under the name British Isles until 1912.
