The Israelis have been drawn at home to Argentina in the World Group play-offs, and will be looking for a win which would would elevate them to the World Group after an absence of just one year.

Israel got the better of a Slovenian team in tie which was heavily disrupted by rain in Portoroz. After finishing the first day level at 1-1, there was no play on the Saturday due to rain, which meant that both the doubles and reverse singles would be played on the final day. Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram won the doubles match in four sets before Dudi Zela beat both Grega Zemlja and the approaching darkness to give Israel a chance of an immediate return to the World Group.
Israel's Davis Cup debut was in 1949 and its best performance came in 2009, when it was a World Group semifinalist.
