Next tie 16-18 September 2016
After losing in the first round, Israel must fight to avoid relegation from Europe/Africa Zone Group I in play-off ties later this year.
Last tie 4-6 March 2016
Israel were beaten by a spirited Hungarian team in Budapest, leaving the team with a fight on its hands if it wants to maintain its Zone Group I status. Dudi Sela started slowly against Hungary's Peter Nagy, and despite levelling the match at two-sets all having lost the first two, Nagy won the fifth to put Hungary ahead. Marton Fucsovics then defeated Amir Weintraub to leave the home team on the brink, before teaming up with Levente Godry to beat Israel's Sela and Jonathan Erlich in the doubles and secure the tie for Hungary after just three rubbers.
Israel's Davis Cup debut was in 1949 and its best performance came in 2009, when it was a World Group semifinalist.
