Last tie 4-6 April 2014
Italy came from 1-2 down to defeat Great Britain in an enthralling quarterfinal tie in Naples. After a four set win for Fabio Fognini in the opening rubber, Andy Murray levelled the tie before teaming up with Colin Fleming to record an important doubles victory. But Fognini proved too good for Murray in Sunday's reverse singles, and Andreas Seppi sealed the victory with a straight sets win over James Ward.
Italy was crowned Davis Cup champion in 1976, and has finished runner-up on six further occasions. Italy's Nicola Pietrangeli is the leading all-time Davis Cup player. He holds the record for playing the most rubbers (164), as well as the records for the most wins in both singles (78-32) and doubles (42-12). He also forms half of the most successful doubles partnership with Orlando Sirola (34-8).
