Next tie 6-8 March 2015
Japan will travel to Canada for a second consecutive first round clash against Martin Laurendeau's men. The Japanese won their first World Group tie last year and with Kei Nishikori in the form of his life who is to say they won't do it again.
Last tie 4-6 April 2014
Without the injured Kei Nishikori and the unwell Go Soeda, it was always going to be a tough ask for a young Japanese team playing against the two-time defending champions, Czech Republic. Taro Daniel and Tatsuma Ito put up a good fight in their singles matches, but ultimately the Czechs' greater experience was evident as they romped to a 5-0 victory.
Japan finished runner-up in 1921, which was its best Davis Cup performance to date. Japan was an inaugural member of the World Group in 1981. In 2011 they returned to the top tier of the competition after 26 years in the Asia/Oceania Group I before scoring their first victory at the highest level in 2014.
