Next tie 4-6 March 2016
Japan travel to 2015 Davis Cup finalists Great Britain for a first-round tie in 2016.
Last tie 18-20 September 2015
Kei Nishikori won two singles rubbers and Taro Daniel stormed through the deciding fifth contest to give Japan an excellent away win in Colombia and stay in the World Group for 2016. Santiago Giraldo won a five-set opening rubber, before Nishikori edged out Alejandro Falla in three tight sets. Juan-Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah won the doubles, but the final day belonged to Japan as Nishikori and Daniel triumphed in the reverse singles.
Japan finished runner-up in 1921, which was its best Davis Cup performance to date. Japan was an inaugural member of the World Group in 1981. In 2011 they returned to the top tier of the competition after 26 years in the Asia/Oceania Group I before scoring their first victory at the highest level in 2014.
