Korea Republic will host New Zealand in the Asia/Oceania Zone Group I first round.
Last tie 17-19 July 2015
The Koreans had no answer to Denis Istomin and Uzbekistan as they were conquered 3-2 in Tashkent. Hyeon Chung had got the visitors off to a fine start with an expected yet hard-fought win over Farrukh Dustov. But then Istomin took over, winning two singles rubbers and a doubles to give the hosts their required three points and a place in the World Group play-offs in September.
Korea played in the World Group in 1981, 1987 and 2008, but has never progressed past the first round. Korea's Young-Jun Kim was involved in the longest-known Davis Cup tiebreak to date against Pakistan's Aqeel Khan in 2003, the first set breaker lasted 36 points.
