Serbia will travel to Argentina in the World Group quarterfinal in a repeat of the 2011 semifinal, which Argentina won 3-2 in Serbia. Novak Djokovic returned to help Serbia to a 5-0 win over Croatia in the World Group first round. He won his singles on the opening day before teaming up with Nenad Zimonjic to clinch the tie in the doubles rubber. The best rubber, however, did not feature the world No. 1. That was Viktor Troicki's 0-2 comeback to defeat Borna Coric 46 16 63 62 61.
Serbia won the Davis Cup title for the first time in 2010, defeating France 3-2 in the Final at Belgrade Arena. Serbia made its debut in the competition in 1995, competing as Yugoslavia between 1995 and 2003, and as Serbia & Montenegro between 2004 and 2006.
For purposes of Choice of Ground, Serbia take Yugoslavia's historical record.
