Serbia overcame a stubborn Kazakhstan side in Belgrade, winning both singles on the third day of play to progress to the quarterfinals. Finding themselves 2-1 after the doubles, the Serbs responded well, Novak Djokovic defeating Mikhail Kukushkin in five sets before Viktor Troicki completed the win with a victory over Aleksandr Nedovyesov.
Serbia won the Davis Cup title for the first time in 2010, defeating France 3-2 in the Final at Belgrade Arena. Serbia made its debut in the competition in 1995, competing as Yugoslavia between 1995 and 2003, and as Serbia & Montenegro between 2004 and 2006.
