Slovakia travel to Hungary in the Europe/Africa Zone Group I second round, with the winner progressing to a World Group play-off tie later this year.
Last tie 18-20 September 2015
Slovakia was beaten 3-2 in Poland, as Michal Przysiezny defeated Norbert Gombos in the live fifth rubber in straight sets. Martin Klizan had won two singles matches for the Slovaks, but that wasn't enough after Jerzy Janowicz won on the opening day, and Lukasz Kubot and Marcin Matkowski combined to claim the doubles too for the Poles.
Slovakia is a former Davis Cup runner-up, having lost to Croatia 3-2 in the Final in 2005. On that occasion, in Bratislava, the result was decided in the fifth rubber when Mario Ancic defeated Michal Mertinak in straight sets. Prior to 1994, Slovak players represented Czechoslovakia.
