After edging past China, P.R., Uzbekistan will travel to Australia in an attempt to reach the World Group for the first time. The Australians came out on top the last time these teams met, recording a 3-1 victory in Namangan in 2013.

Uzbekistan beat China, P.R. in a second round tie which was anything but straight forward. Three of the rubbers went to five sets, with China's Di Wu winning both of his singles matches against the higher ranked Uzbeks, Denis Istomin and Farrukh Dustov. Ultimately, Dustov recorded a five set victory in the decisive fifth rubber to give Uzbekistan a chance to join the 2015 World Group.
Uzbekistan has reached the World Group play-offs on six occasions, in 2009, 2012, and also between 1998 and 2001. Prior to 1992, players from Uzbekistan represented Soviet Union.
