Venezuela will travel to El Salvador with hopes of advancing to the final round of Americas Zone Group II. Venezuela has never lost to El Salvador in 3 previous meetings, including a 3-2 win at the same stage of the competition last year.

Venezuela hosted Paraguay in the opening round of 2016 Americas Zone Group II and eased through to the second round, recording a 5-0 whitewash. Ricardo Rodriguez and Luis David Martinez both recorded 4-set wins on the opening day before Martinez and Roberto Maytin sealed Venezuela's victory in the doubles rubber. The whitewash was secured when Rodriguez and Miguel Angel Este won the dead singles rubbers in straight sets.
Venezuela reached the Americas Zone Group Final in 1960 and 1963, and, more recently, also reached the World Group play-offs in 1995 and 2002. Venezuela's Jorge Andrew was involved in the Davis Cup singles rubber containing most games, 100, when losing to Canada's Harry Fritz 1614 119 911 46 119 in 1982.
