Venezuela will host Uruguay in a relegation play-off, with both teams desperate to remain in Group I for 2015. This will be the nations' first meeting since 2001; the Venezuelans lead the head-to-head record 4-2.

Venezuela traveled to Ecuador where they were defeated 3-2. David Souto was beaten in a tight five-set match as the hosts took the lead, which was then doubled when Emilio Gomez defeated Ricardo Rodriguez. Luiz David Martinez and Roberto Maytin pulled one back for Venezuela before Gomez wrapped up the victory by beating Souto.
Venezuela reached the Americas Zone Group Final in 1960 and 1963, and, more recently, also reached the World Group play-offs in 1995 and 2002. Venezuela's Jorge Andrew was involved in the Davis Cup singles rubber containing most games, 100, when losing to Canada's Harry Fritz 1614 119 911 46 119 in 1982.
