As it happened: Bob & Mike Bryan v Igor Andreev & Nikolay Davydenko

Game-by-game updates:

GAME, SET AND MATCH USA 76 64 62 - USA WINS THE 2007 DAVIS CUP

And what better way to honour the USA's 32nd Davis Cup triumph than have Tina Turenr's "Simply the Best" accompany the celebrations.

If anyone was in any doubt what this meant they only need to listen to each of the players in the on-court interviews as they choke back their emotions, each one's voice wavering slightly as the enormity of the occasion hits home.

The stadium erupts, fireworks are exploding and red, silver and blue ticker tape falls from the roof, which must be rocking on its supports. The Bryans are joined by James Blake and Andy Roddick in a lap of honour as the chants of U-S-A, U-S-A ring out.

The Bryans built a wall at the net in the game and they were never going to be passed. The US team watched the closing moments from the bench with their arms locked and race onto court as the winning volley goes over the head of the Russians.

USA 5-2 Russia
Pandemonium is beginning to set in A fantastic reflex volley by Bob Bryan on the second point of the game ignites the Americans once again and they earn two break points and though those are saved, they take the third opportunity. The end of 12 years of Davis Cup misery is just four points away for USA.

USA 4-2 Russia
The Bryan brothers hold serve and change ends. The Davis Cup is in full view of them now at the other end of the court. It could be theirs very very soon.

USA 3-2 Russia
The body language is suggesting that the Russians' belief is waning. Not since 1998 has the Davis Cup Final been decided on the second day.

USA 3-1 Russia
Down 0-30 in that one but the Bryans fought back again.

USA 2-1 Russia
And there's the break. Luck really deserted Russia there. Andreev got in Davydenko's way to bring up the break point and then a net cord takes the ball out of play to put USA in total command. The fat lady may just be starting to warm up her vocal chords.

1410
The American team are getting behind their men from the sidelines. Roddick is leaning so far over the courtside banner that he is almost on the court itself.

USA 1-1 Russia
Bob Bryan has allayed our commentators' fears that he may have hurt himself with some powerful serving.

USA 0-1 Russia
Igor Andreev holds serve in the first game of the third set.

1402
"The USA is on the verge of something huge."
Craig Gabriel on Davis Cup Radio

SECOND SET USA 6-4
Well there was little trouble in the end. Everyone is clapping and shouting along with the music that is pumping into the arena.

USA 5-4 Russia
Some clever serving from Davydenko means that Bob will have to serve out - he was in trouble in his last service game and Chris Bowers, Davis Cup Radio's expert commentator, reckons his level may just have dropped.

USA 5-3 Russia
Davydenko is about to serve to stay in the second set after another exemplary game from the Bryans.

USA 4-3 Russia
A human pyramid is assembling on court as the acrobats are back. It's almost as tall as the mountain that Andreev and Davydenko have to climb.

USA 4-2 Russia
The Bryans were really under pressure there. Trailing 0-30 and then fighting off a break point. Was that the last chance for Russia ?

USA 3-2 Russia
Davydenko stutters through his service game. Andreev actually hit Bob Bryan with a volley unintentionally during one exchange.

USA 3-1 Russia
The Bryans are showing just why they are the No.1 team in the world. The Russians have just gone off the game a little too.

USA 2-1 Russia
Russia holds. A team of jugglers race on to court for the change-of-ends entertainment. Do the Russians have any tricks of their own up their sleeves ?

USA 2-0 Russia
Bob consolidates the break and Russia's grip on the Davis Cup is slipping fast,

USA 1-0 Russia
Things are going from bad to worse for the Russians. The Bryans are in their groove and start the second set by breaking Davydenko's serve.

1323
A host of former USA Davis Cup players, including Stan Smith, who earlier received the Davis Cup Award of Excellence, are presented to the crowd.

FIRST SET USA 7-6

Andreev double faults on USA's second set point. The fans are going crazy. The roof may just lift off if this carries on.

Tiebreak

USA 7-4 Russia
USA 6-4 Russia
USA 6-3 Russia
USA 5-3 Russia
USA 4-3 Russia
USA 3-3 Russia
USA 2-3 Russia
USA 1-3 Russia
USA 1-2 Russia
USA 1-1 Russia
USA 1-0 Russia

USA 6-6 Russia
And we have a tiebreak. Davydenko shows no sign of the recent problems he has had with his serve. The crowd all rise and cheer to spur on their team.

USA 6-5 Russia
And the answer to that question is no. The Bryans have dropped just five points in their six service games so far. Although to be fair, they've only won seven on their opponent's serve.

USA 5-5 Russia
Impressive play again from the Russians - now can they get a break ?

1306
I just spotted a banner saying "Mike and Bob. Do the job !". Well, so far so good

USA 5-4 Russia
USA holds to love. Davydenko has to dive out of the way of his teammate on one of the points such is Andreev's commitment to the task in hand.

USA 4-4 Russia
There has still been just one break point, has this got tiebreak written all over it ?

USA 4-3 Russia
The Bryans are clicking into top gear as Mike holds easily to keep USA in front. We're approaching make or break point in the first set.

USA 3-3 Russia
You wouldn't know that this was only Davydenko's third doubles match of the year. He is producing some excellent volleys and is backed by Andreev's huge serving.

"If they can keep one of the Bryans at the back of the court, they have a chance."
Eli Weinstein on Davis Cup Radio

USA 3-2 Russia
The crowd are being whipped into a frenzy as free t-shirts are being thrown into the crowd.

USA 2-2 Russia
Davydenko holds easily and the Russians are playing good doubles with some slick volleying. The Bryans may just be a bit nervous with so much to play for.

"Beware Bob and Mike Bryan. This one ain't over yet!"
Eli Weinstein on Davis Cup Radio

USA 2-1 Russia
The crowd are delighted as Mike holds easily. They are now being entertained by a acrobatic troop while the players change ends.

USA 1-1 Russia
Andreev saves the first break point of the match with a huge ace and the Russians combine well to close out the game.

USA 1-0 Russia
Bob drops two points on serve but it's a comfortable hold. The Russians are playing to their strength and staying back as they are both great returners of the ball.

12:39
Bob Bryan gets the second day of this Davis Cup Final under way.

12:37
This in fact only Davydenko's third doubles match of the year but he and Andreev were champions in Moscow in 2004. Although they are facing a pair with 44 titles to their name.

12:34
The Bryan brothers have won 12 of 13 Davis Cup doubles rubbers and have won their last seven, dropping just two sets since their last Davis Cup defeat to Mario Ancic and Ivan Ljubicic in the 2005 first round.

12:29
This is only Davydenko's second Davis Cup doubles rubber. He and Andreev won the doubles rubber against France in this year's quarterfinal. Overall, Andreev is 2-3 in Davis Cup doubles play.

12:28
World No.1 quad wheelchair tennis player David Wagner performs the coin toss.

12:25
Melissa Errico belts out the American anthem and is joined by most of the 12,000 crowd. A quick burst of fireworks and we're almost down to business.

12.17
The excitement is building as the teams appear for today's opening ceremony. The Memorial Coliseum is packed to the rafters and the small number of Russian supporters will have trouble making themselves heard over the American fans.

Mikhail Youzhny is singing his heart out along with the Russian national anthem, sung by Helen Pevzner.

12:06
Potentially a big day in store for American tennis. After Blake and Roddick's victories on day one, USA is on the brink of its 32nd Davis Cup victory, and its first for 12 years. The Russian doubles pairing of Andreev and Davydenko is not only facing the undisputed best doubles team of the moment but also takes to the court in the knowledge that only one team has previously come back to win the Davis Cup after losing the opening two rubbers.
