Ferrer completes Spain's whitewash

As if a 3-0 victory wasn't enough, Spain has now become the first nation since 1997 to win a Davis Cup Final 5-0, after victories for Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer in Sunday's dead rubbers.
Game-by-game updates:

GAME, SET, MATCH - SPAIN 6-4 6-2

Ferrer* 6-4 6-2 Dlouhy
Feliciano Lopez is up on his feet arms outstretched even before Ferrer has a chance to smash off the bounce. That's it folks, Spain defeats Czech Republic in the 2009 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas 5-0!

Ferrer 6-4 5-2 Dlouhy*
Dlouhy makes the wrong decision to leave a passing shot to sail past him and the ball sinks into the sideline. 5-2 lead now for Ferrer and he will serve for the match.

Ferrer* 6-4 4-2 Dlouhy
Ferrer's totally in control, two games away from completing a 5-0 whitewash of Czech Republic. Very strong from the baseline. Dlouhy's produced 11 unforced errors to Ferrer's one so far in this match.

Ferrer 6-4 3-2 Dlouhy*
There's a few people in the stands getting on their feet to applaud Dlouhy as he narrows the gap in this set.

Ferrer* 6-4 3-1 Dlouhy
First double fault from Ferrer. Oooh, Rafa's not happy about something, he's disappeared. Meanwhile, Dlouhy has broken his opponent to get on the board for the first time in this set.

Ferrer 6-4 3-0 Dlouhy*
If Ferrer wins this match, which looks likely after another break, this will be the first 5-0 Davis Cup Final since 1997! Impressive stat for Spain, that's 12 whole years ago! The Swedes did it then when they beat USA.

Ferrer* 6-4 2-0 Dlouhy
There's still a football atmosphere in here, fantastic! Ferrer is whizzing through this match, hasn't even broken sweat yet.

Ferrer 6-4 1-0 Dlouhy*
I have to say, we've had the best seat in the house over this weekend - right behind the Spanish bench, the singing and dancing fans behind us, Czechs across to our left, a fantastic view of the whole stadium, close enough to see the expressions on the players' faces....we're right in the thick of it. Lucky us. Rafa's back from his pressers, jogging along to take one of the six seats in front of me. Oh, and Ferrer's broken in the opening game.

FIRST SET - SPAIN 6-4

Ferrer* 6-4 Dlouhy
Ferrer wastes no time with a love game. First set to Spain after 32 minutes. Looks like an early finish today, well-earned after our 1:30am finish on Friday!! Remember to tune into Davis Cup Radio to listen to the trophy presentation following this match.

Ferrer 5-4 Dlouhy*
Nup, David must serve it out. Dlouhy seals that game with an ace.

Ferrer* 5-3 Dlouhy
Nice hold for Ferrer, and he will want to break now to be done with this first set. 28 minutes on the Rolex clock.

Ferrer 4-3 Dlouhy*
Ferrer breaks after Dlouhy double faults three times. There's some sweet grannies in the stands dancing to the EuroPop at the changeover. They're certainly more awake than the teams right now!

Ferrer* 3-3 Dlouhy
Dlouhy is pulling Ferrer unwillingly into the court, at the same time Ferrer is trying to push Dlouhy deep. Nasty netcord from Dlouhy sets up a break point for the Czech, but Ferrer saves and goes on to take the game. Good pace on the ball from these two.

Ferrer 2-3 Dlouhy*
Lovely drop shots from Dlouhy in this game, these Czechs have taken both of these dead rubbers very seriously. Dlouhy is sweating already while Ferrer's vibrant yellow headband is pristine!

Ferrer* 2-2 Dlouhy
Berdych has sat down courtside, and now Verdasco has joined the Spaniards. Solid game from Ferrer.

Ferrer 1-2 Dlouhy*
Dlouhy shows his serve-volley doubles skills and produces the first service hold of the match. The stands are re-filling now at this changeover. It's stilll looking lovely and colourful in the Palau Sant Jordi and there's alot of interest in this dead rubber which is nice.

Ferrer* 1-1 Dlouhy
Dlouhy breaks back. None of the players from either team are on the bench yet, they're probably doing their hair ready for the trophy presentation after this match.

Ferrer 1-0 Dlouhy*
Ferrer breaks to love in the opening game. We've just had former Czech player Karel Novacek paying a visit to our team on Davis Cup Radio. He never had the fortune to play a Davis Cup Final but was saying how much he loves this competition.

14:00 It's Grand Slam doubles champ Lukas Dlouhy's turn to take to the court for the fifth and final dead rubber of the Davis Cup Final. Taking on Friday's hero, David Ferrer, let's see if the Czechs can finally get on the scoreboard. Rafa just did a great job in extending Spain's lead to 4-0 although he faced some unexpected pressure from world No. 102 Jan Hajek.

Hope you've enjoyed our coverage of the weekend, and in advance of this last match in Barcelona.....gracias, adios!
