| Roddick withdraws |
The US Davis Cup team travel to Croatia without their backbone, world No. 6 Andy Roddick, after the American withdrew from USA's quarterfinal tie on Monday with a hip injury which occurred during his epic five-set Wimbledon final on Sunday.
This is the first time in 18 ties that Roddick misses a Davis Cup round. He will be replaced by world No. 23 Mardy Fish, who joins James Blake and Bob and Mike Bryan for the quarterfinal against Croatia in Porec.
The Americans are bidding to defeat Croatia for the first time, having lost to them in the first round in 2003 and 2005.
