| Davis Cup Final tickets go on general sale |
Tickets for the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Final between Spain and Czech Republic have gone on general sale today. The Final is being held at Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi on 4-6 December.
The stadium, which was originally built to host the gymnastics event at the 1992 Olympic Games, will have a capacity of approximately 16,000. It also staged the Final in 2000 when Spain defeated Australia 3-1.
Spain, the reigning champion, currently holds a 3-2 head-to-head lead over Czech Republic. The most recent meeting came in 2004 when the Spanish team clinched a narrow 3-2 victory, with Rafael Nadal winning the deciding rubber against Radek Stepanek.
Spain has won the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas title on three occasions – in 2000, 2004 and 2008. Its current unbeaten home record stretches to 17 ties while its record on clay is even more impressive, having not been defeated in 19 ties.
Czech Republic’s sole Davis Cup by BNP Paribas title came in 1980 when Ivan Lendl led his side - then named Czechoslovakia - to glory. Radek Stepanek and Tomas Berdych are now the main two players and are unbeaten playing together as a doubles pair.
