Troicki faces rookie Isner in opener
One of the world’s greatest nations in Davis Cup by BNP Paribas takes on one of the newest entries in the competition this weekend at the imposing Beogradska Arena in Belgrade. The USA, winner of this amazing championship 32 times, the last being in 2007, will face Serbia which first played the event in 1995 and has been in the World Group since 2008, for the very first time.

Isner makes his debut

Opening the tie on the red clay court will be Viktor Troicki and John Isner, who is making his Davis Cup debut. Their only previous meeting was last year in Bangkok on an indoor hardcourt when Troicki won in straight sets. Following that match will be world No. 2 Novak Djokovic against Sam Querrey, who has had a Davis Cup baptism of fire. On his debut he played Rafael Nadal in Spain and now he’s got Djokovic away.

Djokovic and Querrey have met twice before and the Serb has won on both occasions, the last time on clay in Monte Carlo in 2008.

“Since we played the last time Sam is a much better quality player and he has the skills and quality to be in the Top 20,” said Djokovic. “He’s won against (Andy) Roddick and some other top players and this is Davis Cup so you never know what to expect, it’s unpredictable. It’s going to be a tough one but hopefully with the support of the crowd we can get two wins on the first day.”

World’s best feature in doubles

The doubles rubber on day two could prove to be fascinating with the world No. 1 team of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan taking on Nenad Zimonjic, ranked No. 1 on the individual doubles rankings, and Janko Tipsarevic.

“We have confidence going into the match,” said Bob Bryan. “We beat him in Australia which was a huge win for us. We were able to finish last year as No. 1 which gave us momentum and whoever they throw at us we’ll be ready. It’s going to be a great tie – he knows a lot about us and we know a lot about him; there won’t be too many surprises and the crowd is going to play its part, but we like playing on the road and I think we’ll be up for this match.”

The reverse singles will close out the tie – Djokovic plays Isner which is a first time meeting and then Troicki plays Querrey; their only previous match was here last year during the regular tour event where Troicki rallied from a set down to win.
