Financial boost for Davis Cup nations
The ITF announced that nations competing in the 2010 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas will receive over $14 million in financial benefits for taking part in this year’s competition. The five per cent increase in benefits recognises the continued commitment by the ITF’s National Associations and their players to Davis Cup.

The ITF has increased the total payments to the participating nations by around six per cent to $9.5 million in 2010. This figure is a combination of prize money and payment to nations in lieu of advertising. The payment in lieu of advertising passes on ITF income received from the competition’s international sponsors to compensate nations for the sponsor advertising on court.

In order to further assist the nations competing at the lower levels of Davis Cup, the ITF has divided Europe/Africa Zone Group III into separate Europe and Africa Zones in 2010 to help with travel to venues. This move has seen the total number of entries increase to 133. The ITF has also doubled the host nation grants for all Davis Cup Zone Group III and IV events.

Other changes to the 2010 competition include the introduction of a web application to allow mobile devices to read Davis Cup website live scoring easily, and the use of Hawk-Eye at Davis Cup semifinal ties played on hard or grass court.

In addition to the total payments, the ITF is continuing its Recognition and Reward process that sees money distributed to nations who have produced outstanding promotional campaigns. This is a move to encourage National Associations to come up with strong promotional plans for their ties to increase the exposure of Davis Cup by BNP Paribas.

Nations will also continue to receive significant commercial revenue from television rights, with the income divided between the ITF and the National Associations hosting televised ties.

Juan Margets, ITF Executive Vice President and Chairman of the Davis Cup Committee, said: “Davis Cup by BNP Paribas continues to deliver strong commercial revenues, highlighted by the results of the recent Davis Cup Economic Survey. We believe it is important to recognise the commitment made by all the individual nations, and the contribution each makes to the overall success of the competition.”
