| Spain retains No. 1 ranking |
Spain has extended its lead at the top of the ITF Davis Cup Nations Ranking following its 2010 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas first round victory over Switzerland in Logrono. The two-time defending champion now holds an advantage of over 20,000 ranking points over its nearest rival.
Russia and Czech Republic both climb one position to No. 2 and No. 3 respectively following their first round victories, while USA's defeat by Serbia sees it drop two places to No. 4.
Croatia and Serbia, who will meet for the first time in July's quarterfinals, both improve their standings. Croatia rises two positions to No. 7, while Serbia climbs three spots to enter the world's Top 10 for the first time at No. 10.
Chile's first round victory over Israel on Monday saw it move up five places to No. 12 in advance of its quarterfinal against Czech Republic.
The ITF Davis Cup Nations Ranking was launched at the end of 2001 and is the sole criteria for seeding at all levels of the competition. A new rankings list is published after each tie weekend, taking into account results from the previous four years.
