| New Zealand to host Pakistan after venue switch |
The Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Asia/Oceania Zone Group II second round tie between New Zealand and Pakistan has switched home venues. The tie will now be hosted by New Zealand on the originally scheduled dates of 9-11 July.
The home-and-away rule dictates that this tie would normally be held in Pakistan, but ongoing security concerns in the region resulted in the situation being reviewed. The decision was taken by the Davis Cup Committee after consultation with the competition’s independent security consultants.
New Zealand booked its place in the second round with a 3-2 victory over Sri Lanka in Colombo. The tie was decided in the final rubber, as Jose Statham claimed a 61 60 75 win over Rajeev Rajapakse.
Pakistan was scheduled to play at home in the first round against Hong Kong, China, but the choice of ground was reversed. Nevertheless, Rashid Malik’s team secured a comprehensive triumph after taking an unassailable 3-0 lead on the second day.
