Playing in the quarterfinals for the 8th successive year, Argentina narrowly lost to Czech Republic with Juan Monaco losing to Radek Stepanek in the deciding rubber.

In 2008, Argentina finished as Davis Cup runner-up for the 3rd time, losing to Spain 3-1 in the final in Mar Del Plata, the first time that it had lost at home since 1998, a run of 13 ties.
