Ecuador will compete in the World Group for the first time since 2001 after winning six consecutive ties. It defeated Brazil in Porto Alegre to seal a spot in the world’s elite.

Nicolas Lapentti recorded his 13th five-set singles victory in the competition and improved his overall record to 13-4 - he now has the best five-set singles record in Davis Cup history.

Best Davis Cup Performance: World Group Quarterfinals - 1985.

Prior to the introduction of the World Group in 1981, Ecuador won the American Zone in 1967, but lost interzonal semifinals.
