France lost to Czech Republic in the first round, marking the first time that it had failed to reach the Davis Cup quarterfinals since 2000.

However, the French team defeated Netherlands in the play-offs to retain its place in the world’s elite.

France won its first Davis Cup title in 1927 and held the trophy for the next five years. Since 1991, it has won the trophy another three times, registering its ninth, and most recent success in 2001, defeating Australia 3-2 in Melbourne.
