In 2009, Great Britain was relegated to Europe/Africa Zone Group II for the first time since 1996, its only appearance at this level of the competition. GB lost two home ties against Ukraine and Poland.

Great Britain is the only nation to compete in every Davis Cup. I is the only nation of the 12 champion nations not to win at least one title since the abolition of the Challenge Round (1972).
