Russia won its first Davis Cup title in 2002, coming back from 1-2 down in the final, when defeating France 3-2 in Paris. It won its second Davis Cup title in 2006, defeating Argentina 3-2.

The doubles rubber of the 2002 World Group semifinal between Russia and Argentina, featuring Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Marat Safin against Lucas Arnold-Ker and David Nalbandian is the longest recorded men’s doubles match of all time, at 6 hours, 20 minutes.

Andrei Chesnokov was involved in the joint-longest set of a Davis Cup singles rubber (46 games) in the 1987 European Zone semifinal vs. Netherlands.
